The thing is, Farage is fucked either way. Sure, he will probably win the by-election, but he is standing against Count Binface, a satirical candidate who calls himself an “independent space warrior”. That’s hardly the resounding political victory he wanted. And if Binface gets any significant proportion of the votes, which he likely will, then that’s voters who would rather have a man with a bin on his head than Farage.
To be fair to Count Binface, he’s smart as hell and knows exactly what he is doing, and I (with Kemi fucking Badenoch, apparently) wish him all the luck in the world.
So. If you are not following the Nigel Farage vs. Count Binface showdown in British politics then I recommend you start doing so.
The short version: Nigel Farage, MP and leader of the far-right Reform Party, resigns from his seat to halt investigation into his dodgy finances. Then announces he will stand in the ensuing by-election, essentially because if he wins his (safe) seat again it proves the people don’t care about his finances.
As this is obviously a bullshit stunt, every single other major party refuses to put up a candidate for the by-election.
This means Farage is now running against one other candidate only: Count Binface, a man with a bin on his head.

8 years ago today, I brought home the cat the shelter told me not to get. She was "violent", "choosy", "hateful", and "wouldn't get along". She's also the best cat I've ever had.
She was returned to the shelter as a kitten and stayed there for 5 more years. They didn't even remember her name when I asked. The day we met, she was hiding on a cat tree in the corner of the adult cat room. She reached out, grabbed my hand with her claws, and pulled me in to her chest. We stayed that way for 40 minutes.
We're both a little older; we've both got some vision problems, and we've both got some new gray hair... but I wouldn't trade the last eight years with her for anything.

I think proper mental health must involve, on some level, respecting the fact that you are a very thin conscious layer over a mammalian brain structure shared with wild animals, and while your higher thought processes may override those needs in the short-term, over the long-term, you're still an animal with basic needs like food security, shelter, territory you control, exercise, socializing, being horny, etc. and trying to ignore them instead of just taking a walk sometimes will be seriously detrimental no matter how many spoons you have.
At the same time, it's silly to assume that a future civilization will grow "beyond" such "base impulses". As C.S. Lewis pointed out, the fear of being perceived as childish is, itself, a childish thing. I think a highly advanced society might give itself more control over ancient feral urges while still preserving and shamelessly indulging in some of them, because they know better than to be ashamed of such desires.

Bei allem was Computer so machen sind Hardware und Energie die Hauptkosten.
Hardware für AI ist definitiv teuer als "traditionelle" Hardware. Daher können also schon mal keine Ersparnisse kommen.
Bleiben also nur noch die Energiekosten.
Grundlegend benötigt eine Suche mit LLMs mehr Energie wie eine vergleichbare traditionelle Suche. Studien sprechen von bis zu zehn mal mehr Energie. [1]
Ich habe mir Vlads Erklärung durchgelesen, bin aber der Meinung, dass das nicht die wirklichen Kosten von AI darstellt.
AI kostet aktuell nicht so viel wie es kosten müsste um damit tatsächlich Geld zu verdienen. [2]
Meiner Meinung nach ist das also einfach gelogen, dass AI weniger kostet als eine traditionelle Suche.
Das ist nur alles so sehr von Venture Capital Geld subventioniert, dass es sich aktuell "rechnet".
Sobald da mal Profite rollen sollen sieht das ganze wieder ganz anders aus.

P.S.: Könntest Du mir mal zeigen worauf Du die Aussage basierst, dass Du mit Offline-KI einen kleineren Fußabdruck als mit einer klassischen Suche hast? Bisher habe ich dazu immer gegenteiliges gehört (die sozial-ethischen Aspekte mal außen vor gelassen)
